If you’re getting ready to move into a new place there are a few things that you need to take care of prior to moving day that don’t require packing tape and boxes. Check out the list below and make the move a whole lot easier.
Hire Your Mover - Do your research and ask questions then hire and book the mover at least 6 weeks before moving day.
Change Your Address - Get a Change of Address packet from the post office and fill it out 2-3 weeks ahead of time. Bonus – the packets often come with some useful coupons!
Call a Locksmith - Arrange to have the locks on your new home changed on or before moving day. If you have possession before moving day, you can have them changed immediately.
Power Up - Notify utility services two weeks before the move. Schedule the shut off at your old home for the day after the move and turn on at the new house a couple days before. Again, if you have possession before the big day, you can schedule the utilities to be turned on before. This is essential if you will be doing any work on the home prior to move in.
Be Cool for School - If you have kids be sure to have their records transferred to the new school.
Stay Connected - Research cable, internet and phone providers in the new area early and set up appointments for service installation.
Bank on It - Reorder checks with your new address. If you bank with a regional bank and you’re moving to a new area, you may need to set up an account with a new bank.
Is There a Doctor in the House - If you are moving to a new area, you may need to change Doctor’s. Ask your current office for a referral to a practice in your new town. Also, fill and transfer prescriptions a week before the move.
Don’t Forget Frosty - Unplug and defrost your refrigerator 1-2 days before packing it in the truck. You will want to make sure it is clean and dry inside to avoid any unwanted surprises when you open it at the new place.
Make it Safe - Empty gas & oil out of your lawn mower, weed eater and anything else gas filled you will be packing up and moving. You should also make a point to properly dispose of any flammable items you can’t transport.
Data Danger - Back up all computers, tablets and devices before the move including phones. There is nothing worse than loosing data. Think of all the records, information and memories on those items.
Make a Memory - Have someone take a family photo in your home before leaving. Take another in the new space too, make sure to get the date in the photo to commemorate the event.

Thinking of selling your home? Want to get top dollar? Of course you
"Thank you so much for making my dream of becoming a home owner a reality!! My realtor was Jill and I could not ask for a more fun person to go look at houses. She was willing and ready to take me wherever I wanted, pretty much whenever I needed and always ready to answer my questions or find the answers. My first finance person was a huge disappointment but she was able to connect me with Doug at Gold Star financial and I could not have asked for a better team. They made the process as easy as possible and helped me purchase the purfect home. As a single small business owner buying a home can proove to be a challenge but they made it happen!! Thank you all for making my this work!! -Tiffany "
