Thinking about gardening today. Soft rain coming down, earth beginning to flower. You know the purity of Michigan's water concerns me. One of the efforts we can all do to avoid the poisons in chemical fertilizers is to garden organically. No chemicals!! It CAN be done, & quite easily too. I've been organic since my first garden in 1984. It can be interesting figuring out what fertilizer to use that is organic. I have horses, so I can use manure. But also, we have a compost pile. All kitchen scraps(no animal products) go onto the pile. I don't even bother to turn it. It eventually composts down to black dirt. No, it doesn't stink. If you don't like how it looks, cover the top lightly w/ grass, leaves, hay. There are fancy ways to make compost & there are labor intensive ways to make it. All on you tube, I'm sure. Mine is easiest but also slowest. In the spring if I need fertilizer or black dirt for a pot, I just scrape aside the top layer & voila - there is rich black dirt.
